NYC Street-Style, Winter Edition

Goooooooooooooood morning, pals!!! I don't know about you, but it is COLD in Nashville. The high for today is 46 but for the past two weeks it's been around 8 degrees...I guess I better start setting aside tornado supplies? Anyway, about a week before Christmas I went to NYC with my mama, my first best friend and her mama for a girls' trip. This was my second time in the city and even though both times were the week before Christmas, the weather has never been unbearable--it was legit colder in Nashville than it was in New York. That being said, the wind can be harsh! I wanted to put together a little recap post about my outfits and how I stayed warm without looking like too much of a tourist ;)

My family is a loyal Southwest family. When we fly, we only fly Southwest; whether it's the entire family going somewhere or just P and me flying, we never fly any other way. Southwest allows each passenger 2 carry-ons and 2 checked bags. However, my family insists on only ever traveling with carry-ons (insert eye-roll). Even when I fly alone or with P, I find myself still taking a carry-on suitcase and a backpack...idk why, but the light packing stuck. If you've ever had to pack light, you know how difficult it can be to not re-wear outfits. In an effort to pack more clothes, I only took two pairs of shoes and I used a big Vera tote instead of a backpack because I could fit my giant purse in it better. We definitely had to check our suitcases on the flight back thanks to a little too much shopping in Soho, but no need to focus on that!!!

STAPLES:

  • SHOES: I took a pair of black booties that I have had for EVER...like since high school, aka about 3 or 4 years. I think they originally came from Target (???)! I bought two new pairs of suuuper cute booties and I was so pumped to take them but when my suitcase started getting a little too full I knew I needed to go with the practical shoes that are really comfortable, even when walking 8+ hours in them. Unfortunately not pictured, I also took a pair of blue Adidas cloudfoam sneakers that sweet P got me as an early Christmas gift. I wore them a LOT in NY and I seriously haven't taken them off since I've been in Nashville...they're so cute and so comfy that I can literally wear them to church and then to the gym.

  • PURSE: I am a loyal Fashionable buyer, so naturally I had to bring my Abera Crossbody Tote. I have 3 Fashionable bags and they are such good quality and just plain gorgeous! You can dress the bags up or use them as your carry-on! To make it even better, Fashionable bags are hand-made by women who have overcome extreme circumstances so if you ever need an excuse to buy one of their bags, just know that your wallet is doing a little bit of good ;)

  • JACKETS: I took 3 jackets but I only wore two---my packable down jacket and this goofy furry jacket. I don't know if y'all have heard about packable jackets, but they are amazing. I have always hated puffy down jackets because they literally make noises when you move, but this one is so light and noise-free (this one is similar-ish but a little puffier). My other go-to jacket was a faux-fur zip-up. I was at TJ Maxx in a really iffy area with P and as we were leaving we walked past a store called Burkes Outlet. I was on a crazy-tight budget bc I was trying to save money for Christmas gifts and New York so when I saw a store that had the word "outlet" in the name I figured I could find a deal in there! I walked away with a really cute sports bra ($12) and a jacket ($20) and I am still so stoked about the purchase bc I have washed both pieces of clothing a BUNCH and they're still going strong! I can't find my cheap one online but this one looks the most similar and Billabong is really good quality so if you want a faux fur jacket this one seems like a good investment!

What are your go-to pieces when it's this cold outside? Let me know in the comments!!!
